Computer Tips & Tricks Everyone Should Know

January 1, 2020 by BuyDig Team Leave a Comment

Even though you use your computer every single day, that doesn’t mean you know how to use your computer to its full potential. We wanted to share some computer tips and tricks so you can take full advantage of your Mac or PC.

Take a screenshot
On Macs, CMD Shift 3 takes a photo of the entire screen, or you can press the Print Screen button on your Windows keyboard for PCs. On Macs, CMD Shift 4 lets you use your mouse and select a portion of your screen for a screenshot. One way to get the most out of windows 10 is to use the Snipping Tool, a program in Windows, to select a specific area of your screen to take a screenshot.

New computer? No problem!
Use Ninite.com to download commonly installed programs all at once when setting up a new computer from Buydig.com. The service is free, but unfortunately it’s only a great PC tip and trick because it only works for PCs.

Get your tab addiction under control
OneTab is arguably the best Chrome or Firefox extension you can download to get the most out of Windows 10. The extension places a small button on your toolbar that, when pressed, converts all your open tabs into a list that you can easily open and access later. Or, you can export your tabs as a list of URLs to share with others. The extension saves up to 95% of your computer’s memory, because your browser is no longer running all those tabs. Goodbye spinning wheel of death!

Disable autoplay videos in Chrome
Another quick Chrome tip to help you get the most out of Windows 10:  You can now turn off autoplay videos! In the Chrome address bar, paste this:

chrome://flags/

On your keyboard press CTRL F (or Command F on a Mac)

Type autoplay

Click the dropdown menu and set it to “document user activation required”

Get back that tab you accidentally closed
If you want to get back a tab you closed, just press ‘Control’ (or ‘Command’ on Mac), plus ‘Shift,’ plus ‘T,’ and it will magically reappear. That can be a lifesaving tip on how to use computers minus the frustration!

Easily repeat your last command in Excel
This is a great computer tip and trick when learning how to use the computer program Excel. If you press the F4 button in Excel, it repeats the last command. For example; If you select a cell and highlight it yellow, you can then highlight any other selected cells yellow by pressing F4.

Move your window to any side of the screen, or to the next monitor
If you click the ‘Windows’ key, plus one of the arrows (right, left, up, down), your current window will move to that side of the screen. Similarly, ‘Windows,’ plus ‘Shift,’ plus one of the arrows will move your window into whatever monitor is that direction. This only works for Windows machines, but it will help you get the most out of Windows 10 for sure!

Clear your cache in seconds
This is an extremely helpful computer tip and trick to use to quickly clear your cache. Simply press ‘Control,’ plus ‘Shift,’ plus ‘R.’ This will also refresh your page.

Undo anywhere
Sometimes you have deleted an important file or have deleted a few words in the doc file. You can use Ctrl+Z to recover the file and words. This short cut key works almost everywhere.

Closing current window or program
Want to get the most out of Windows 10 on your Surface Pro from Buydig.com? When you want to close an open window or program you can do so by using Alt+F4.

Task manager
This is a quick computer tip and trick that comes in handy when you get in a bind. To launch the task manager directly you can use Ctrl+Shift+Esc.

Switch windows
While working you might need to jump from one window to another window to get the most out of Windows 10. You can use Alt+Tab to navigate through the windows and stay where you want to work.

Minimize all windows
This is a great PC tip and trick! Suppose you’re working on your PC and multiple windows are open and you want to minimize them all of a sudden. You can use windows key+D to minimize all windows at once and vice-versa.

 Switch between the tabs
If you want to navigate from one tab to another using a keyboard shortcut key, you can use Ctrl+Tab and move forward from one tab to the other. Similarly, if you want to navigate from one tab to another backboard you can use Ctrl+Shift+Tab.

Open private window
Sometimes you need to use a private window to browse the internet because in the private window, history isn’t being saved. Use Ctrl+Shift+T to open a new private window. Just another way to get the most out of Windows 10.

These computer tips and tricks will improve your productivity and save each and every second of your workflow.
