Should You Get A Smart Watch?

February 24, 2015 by Barry Dyson Jr. Leave a Comment

And if so, which one should you get?

Well, the simplest answer is to get a smart watch that will pair well with your smart phone. So, if you are using an iPhone, you’d want to get a smart watch running iOS. If you are using an Android phone, you’d want a watch running Android. So, that’s the easiest part of the question to answer. Now, if you’re wondering how to coordinate your watch’s look with the rest of your ensemble… rumor has it that this year, mauve is the new black.

Still, the first question is should you even bother getting a smart watch? After all, if you have a smart phone, shouldn’t that be all you need? You’re always going to have your phone with you, right? There’s no need to keep “smartening” (totally a thing) every device out there. What next? Smart rings? Smart shoe laces? Smart boxerbriefs?

Smart watches aren’t just a trend. Many of us have missed a call or a text when we couldn’t hear our phone or have been in a situation where checking our phone would have been considered rude. However, a quick glance at a watch does not garner the same reaction as checking a phone does — it’s more discreet. Watches can also provide a bit more flexibility in carrying and wearing them around, making them great for fitness trackers and hiking. Finally, watches allow for true hands-free use and are safer to use while driving when paired with voice commands. All too often, we’ve become somewhat “programmed” on a Skinnerian level to look at our phones when interacting with them. The same is not true of our watches.

If you’ve decided to go ahead and get a smart watch now, be sure to check out our Wearable Tech department and keep an eye on this blog as we will have more entries coming on how to pick the best smart watch for your needs!
