1GB High-speed CompactFlash storage card for digital cameras and handheld PC's. Speed rated at 100X. What are the advantages of a 100X high-speed card?
- Less ?lag? time from when you push the shutter to when the camera takes the picture
- Quicker shots when using ?photo burst? mode on the camera
- Faster downloads from the card to your computer
- More energy efficient, since the high-speed card actually uses less battery power
High-speed memory cards are strongly recommended for digital cameras of 4 megapixels or more.
How many digital photos can you store on a flash memory card? Regular film is sold based on the number of exposures it will hold, so we expect to purchase "digital film" the same way. Unfortunately, it's difficult to predict exactly how many photos you can fit on a flash card. That's because the file size for one photo depends on numerous factors: - Resolution: The higher the resolution, the bigger the file will be.
- Compression: Your camera might give you the option of choosing a compression format (or formats - such as JPEG or TIFF) or taking uncompressed photos. Uncompressed files are the largest, and compression formats vary in size.
- Colors: RGB photos (format for viewing on a monitor) are three times as big as black-and-white photos, and CMYK photos (format for printing) are four times as big as black-and-white.
- Your camera model and the shooting conditions: Each camera gives slightly different results, and you might even get a different number of photos per card depending on the subject you are shooting and the current light conditions.
Taking those factors into consideration, the following charts can give you some general guidelines for approximately how many pictures average users can fit on various sizes of flash cards. Note: if you take any short videos with your digital camera, you?ll want even more memory since video eats memory far quicker than stills do. |
| Flash memory card capacity | | file size* | 256MB | 512MB | 1GB | 2GB | 4GB | 2-megapixel | 900KB | 284 | 568 | 1,137 | 2,275 | 4,551 | 3-megapixel | 1.2MB | 213 | 426 | 853 | 1,706 | 3,413 | 4-megapixel | 2MB | 128 | 256 | 512 | 1,024 | 2,048 | 5-megapixel | 2.5MB | 102 | 204 | 409 | 819 | 1,638 | 6-megapixel | 3.2MB | 80 | 160 | 320 | 640 | 1,280 | 8-megapixel | 4MB | 64 | 128 | 250 | 500 | 1,000 | *Average file size using camera's "high-resolution" JPEG mode. The actual number of images per card wiill vary and depends on the camera model and the factors mentioned above. | |
