Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation - Recorded content remains easy to find with the help of a menu that will be automatically created when you record. It displays the date and channel you recorded, along with a thumbnail of your recording by capturing the first video frame of the recording. The date and channel can be change to any 64-character title and the thumbnails to any image within the recording. Chapters within the recording can also be created by either predetermined intervals, or by the user selecting specific points within the recording. These chapters can also be named and assigned a specific thumbnail from any video frame within the chapter.

WMA & MP3 Playback - Recordable Compact Discs (CD-R & CDRW) with music stored in either the Windows Media Audio or MP3 file formats can be enjoyed.

EASY NAVI Menu - An entry menu portal that provides quick and easy access to key features of the DVD recorder, such as Timer Recording or DV Capture. Additionally the EASY navi displays a "live action window", providing feedback to the user on the current status of the recorder, whether it is recording a program, in the Time Slip mode, or playing back content with DVD-RAM or HDD.

TV Guide On ScreenTM - This Interactive Program Guide provides an easy to read listing of the television programs available to view or record. The full 2004 version incorporated in the RD-XS34 provides: an 8-day program listing, flexibility of recording directly to DVD or the HDD, the ability to perform keyword searches for locating favorite programs and includes the G-Link IR Blaster for controlling cable boxes. When recording television programs, the name of the show, along with the channel and date, are automatically captured.

Chase Play & Live Chase Play (Pause Live TV) - Chase Play allows the user to begin watching a recording that is already in progress. The Live Chase Play feature lets you 'pause' a live recording and then return to it later. During playback of both modes, a bar graph can be displayed on-screen depicting the 'progress' or location of the playback signal with regards to the real time recorded signal.

Front Panel A/V & IEEE1394DV Inputs - There are composite audio & video inputs, as well as RCA L/R inputs on the front panel of the unit for easy camcorder dubbing. Additionally, an IEEE1394 'Firewire' jack is also available on the front panel for interfacing compatible digital video camcorders. Provides automatic recognition of the device and on-screen menu controls to easily direct the "downloading" process with the recorders remote control.
