After you've watched your recording, you can delete it to make room for new shows, or burn it to DVD. Basic editing features make it simple to create a customized and organized DVD collection. The 'XS54 automatically displays the date and channel of each recording, as well as a thumbnail image. When you record to the DVR or a rewriteable DVD-RAM disc, you can edit the date and channel, create your own title, and choose your own thumbnail. You can also set chapter markers and erase unwanted material, so it's easy to find what you want to watch later on.
The XS54 also offers some practical features for those who want to record their home videos to DVD. Front-panel inputs allow for quick hookup of a VCR or camcorder. TV Guide On Screen IPG - TV Guide On Screen is a free, interactive TV program guide built into the RD-XS54, allowing you to easily select programs to record or watch. The guide provides up to eight days of programming information, and gives you handy search tools to easily find the program you're looking for. A G-Link IR Blaster is included for controlling your cable box.
Front Panel A/V, S-Video & IEEE1394DV Inputs - There are composite audio & video inputs, as well as RCA L/R inputs on the front panel of the unit for easy camcorder dubbing. Additionally, an IEEE 1394 Firewire jack is also available on the front panel for interfacing compatible digital video camcorders. Provides automatic recognition of the device and on-screen menu controls to easily direct the "downloading" process with the recorders remote control.
Time Slip, Chase Play and Live Chase Play "Pause Live TV" - Chase Play allows the user to begin watching a recording that is already in progress. The Live Chase Play feature lets you 'pause' a live recording and then return to it later. During playback of both modes, a bar graph can be displayed on-screen depicting the 'progress' or location of the playback signal with regards to the real time recorded signal.
Auto Title/Chapter/Thumbnail Creation - Recorded content remains easy to find with the help of a menu that will be automatically created when you record. It displays the date and channel you recorded, along with a thumbnail of your recording by capturing the first video frame of the recording. The date and channel can be change to any 64- character title and the thumbnails to any image within the recording. Chapters within the recording can also be created by either predetermined intervals, or by the user selecting specific points within the recording. These chapters can also be named and assigned a specific thumbnail from any video frame within the chapter.
High-Speed Dubbing - You can dub programs from DVD to the HDD, or from the HDD to DVD. Using high speed recording with compatible discs you can transfer an entire disc in a short time. Note: You cannot dub any DVDs that are copy protected.
