The Panasonic DMR-ES40VS is a HiFi VCR and a DVD recorder rolled into one useful component. Convenient recording features like one-touch dubbing and front-panel camcorder inputs makes it easy to copy home video to DVD or VHS. And like other Panasonic DVD recorders, the 'ES40VS maintains a higher image resolution even at lower recording quality settings.
Using a "DVD-RAM" rewritable disc, you can take advantage of some conveniences similar to those found on hard drive-based digital video recorders. For example, you can start watching a program from the beginning while it's still recording. Or, you can pause playback while the deck continues to record, and watch the rest later. You can enter your own title for each home movie or TV show you record.
You can enter your own title for each home movie or TV show you save to DVD. It's easy to find what you're looking for on the disc, too - the ES40VS displays thumbnail images of all the recordings on a disc, along with the date, channel, and title. And this combo recorder is a great option for backing up VHS tapes.
Direct Navigator - A list of programs is created as you record them. Using the Direct Navigator, you can select programs from the thumbnail list to watch. Direct Navigator provides information about each program, including title, channel information, time/date, and those programs that are write-protected, copy-protected, unable to play or currently recording.
Time Slip recording and playback - While recording on a DVD-RAM, you can simultaneously check the accuracy of the recording using Time Slip. This feature displays the recorded information as a picture-in-picture 30 seconds or more behind the current recording. The recorded image and current image can appear simultaneously as a picture-in-picture or the recorded image can be displayed full screen.
One-Touch Recording - You can begin recording with a single press of the record button. One-Touch Record will save your favorite programs from accidental overwrite, by automatically scanning the disc for blank space before starting the recording process.
VCR Plus+: In addition to DVD timer recording the DMR-ES30V also features VCR Plus+. Entering the VCR Plus+ code from your local newspaper or TV Guide can be used as an easy way to program the unit to record.
Timer Recording - You can program the DVD's timer to record up to 16 broadcasts, as far as a month in advance. You can also record programs on a weekly or daily basis.
Digital audio - Dolby Digital and dts audio formats deliver stunningly realistic digital soundtracks to enhance your home entertainment experience.
Multiple Recording Speeds - This unit can record in six different speeds; SP is standard picture quality, LP is long play with slightly lesser picture quality, EP is extra long play with the lowest picture quality, and XP is the highest picture quality. There's also FR "flexible recording" that lets you record with the best picture quality possible for the recording time and remaining space on the disc. In the Setup Menu, you can choose to set the recorder to record either 6 or 8 hours of programming in the EP mode. When the 8-hour recording option is chosen, the sound quality is lowered compared to other recording modes.
Selectable progressive-scan playback - The component video output can be set for interlaced (480i) or progressive scanning (480p) depending upon the compatibility of the connected TV
Convenience features - Quick Start recording, on-screen display, ShowView electronic program guide, parental lock, slow motion and more.
