Pros: Power req:= very easy to drive.By easy ,I mean real easy.An old Creative zen nano+ can run. Comfort: = hours and hours no prob. Sound: =bass is ok.what there is ,is well defined. Sound:=spacious soundstage concert hall feeling. Cord: = heavy duty and long. Wings: =rubberband works fine, nonissue on my 7 3/4 head even without.
Cons: Cord:= annoying memory and nondetachable. Sound: =bass is ok.what there is ,is well defined. Not a lot of it for some. Treble bump is an issue! Using Foobar EQ I can tame .. Will try to mod to suppress.. I have not compared 900x to 700x so can't speak to where performance vs cost sweet spot is.
Other Comments: Audio Technica please fix this cord! Make detachable. Fix treble spike. My 900x was a benjamin+jackson and I feel ,ok ,with the purchase price.

5 out of 5 stars   Lightweight, Studio Quality, Sturdy Design

Pros: I've owned these for about 4 months now. So very lightweight. These feel absolutely amazing on my head. I can wear them for 12 hours straight with no problems. Because these are open-air, my ears never get hot or sweaty. Ear pads are large and very comfortable. Hands down the most comfortable headphones I've had the pleasure of wearing and owning. Sound quality is REALLY great! They are very well balanced. The bass is SUPER clean.
Cons:
Other Comments: The arms that rest on your head are a little weak for my liking. They will slide down just a bit and rest lightly on my ears. I had read reviews about this before buying, that's why I put a rubber band between the arms. I expected this when I purchased these headphones, and it really doesn't bother me at all. It looks a little bit weird with a rubber band. But if you're buying a pair of headphones for looks to wear out, these aren't your headphones anyways.

5 out of 5 stars   Significant improvement over the AD900
By Innerv8 (Tucson, AZ) July 11, 2015
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones (Black) (ATHAD900X)

Pros: They don't press against the ear the way the 900s do...A more balanced sound with significantly more bass...Better clamping force than before, and still very comfortable
Cons: None that I have found
Other Comments: I was on the fence about getting these since I already own the AD900s, but I'm really glad I did as these are definitely a step up from the 900s. I will say that when comparing the sound at first (900x straight out of the box), my thoroughly burned-in 900s sounded better, even on the low end; however, after a combination of playing pure tones, sweeps, warbles, etc., and periods of listening to different genres of music, it took hardly any time for these to surpass the sound quality of my 900s as the bass is staying to come into its own (roughly 10 hours of total burn-in time so far). I can't wait to experience the full sound they're designed to play!

Pros: Very detailed sound, you can hear every instruments clearly, not like ATH-M50 which tends to confuses them together. And it feels more comfortable to wear for prolonged hours. Good sound stage to pin point where the noise is coming from is good for gaming as well.
Cons: Little bass, but tight and accurate, might need some tweak of the equalizer, or a good AMP, but I haven't tried either. Boomy bass lover may need to look elsewhere, but for pop and country music, these are fine. ATH-M50's bass is more suitable to my taste. The headphone keeps sliding down from my head is my only complaint for now.

Pros: Very Detailed Comfortable Realistic Soundstage
Cons: Some Folks Might Consider Them Too Big
Other Comments: I have about 22 pairs of headphones, fairly good "audiophile" type hearing and these are keepers. The actually fair pretty well at their M.S.R.P. of $300. For $129 they are a steal. Just go on the net and read the reviews. You will not be disappointed with these. If you are, Buydig has an easy return policy.

4 out of 5 stars   comfortable wear, balanced presentation...

Pros: Tried any headphones these days? Between bloated, overripe bass and clampy earcups, the offering definitely tends towards teenage angst with still some relent of emo... Even Sennheiser, who I have tremendous respect for got sucked into the Beats rethoric with the Momentus series. Shame shame... How Audio Technica avoided that trend I do not know, but I have noticed a definite effort towards natural presentation and fast, articulate bass. This one is no exception. Open back, with a unique wear system that limits pressure on the ears, making them comfortable and unobtrusive even worn several hours a day. The open back is sufficiently transparent for ambient conversation while high driver efficiency enables direct mobile connection, they are versatile and comfortable at home and on the road.
Cons: In all honesty, they will not survive my treatment very long- none of them do... See my next review in 18 months:-) Also, I still prefer the S HD598 sound but wish they were as comfy as these. Can I eat my cake and have it, too?
Other Comments: Not just yet!

Pros: I have always wanted to try a pair of audio technica headphones and the Ath-A900X was a great chose. These headphones are unbelievable for the price you can get them for. They do all most everything right. The highs are never harsh but are present, the midrange is the star of the show,it is the best i have ever heard. The bass is perfect and does not over take the mids or highs. The vocals are upfront and so clear and the soundstage is great for a closed back headphone. It sounds just as open as some of my open back phones. At this price i don't think you will find a better headphone.
Cons: Some people did not like the design and fit of these headphones. I myself have a problem.
Other Comments: Be patient for at least 20 hrs burn in for the best sound. You will be in for a treat.

Pros: Other than bass, a900x out-competes m50x in every way. Sound stage is great for closed can, it’s almost unbeatable especially for its price range. These are very comfortable to wear for long period of time. So light and nearly no pressure. I am now a huge fan of wing system. Very nice cable. No cable noise what-so-ever
Cons: The only downside is the significant sound leakage I found while I was listening to these.

By archindar (florida) September 07, 2014

Pros: - top fits your head in a way that doesnt mess with your hair line and fits all sizes -cord is a good length and is strong, doesn't get cut and twist resistant - ear cloth is leathery and feels tight to the head lowers leakage.
Cons: -over a year the cord starts to show issues, not unmanageable and might not happen if you treat it well. Sound will leak past half volume, but on the flip side can gear spoken words from as low as 5%
Other Comments: if you dont own a nice headset get this one. if you have owned good headphones before this might not outshine it by miles.

1 out of 5 stars   Hurts ears, no bass
(Grand Junction, CO) April 26, 2014
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700X Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATHAD700X)
Verified Reviewer
Pros: It works
Cons: Hurts ears Absolutely no bass No immersive feeling while gaming Just sounds ok I guess
Other Comments: After reading all the posts about how little bass these have, I was still shocked to find out how little bass these headphones really have. I mean there is NO bass whatsoever. It's like listening to tweeters. Think about this before you buy. They are painful to the ears and make them sore. They are not comfortable. Honestly, I wish I could return them, but I've used them for a whole week already and it wouldn't be right, I'm stuck with these stupid headphones thinking it would help my gaming, but it isn't really. I have a high end audio setup, sound blaster zxr and SBX pro and I just simply can't think of any pros for these headphones. I've been a gamer all my life, played counter strike since 1.5, I play battlefield 4, and these headphones aren't the ultimate gaming headphone like so many say.

5 out of 5 stars   Great for CS:S and CS:GO
By d00b (Gulfport, MS) February 17, 2014
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700X Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATHAD700X)

Pros: I'm a PC gamer and generally play CS where I need to hear footsteps and these headphones do the trick.
Cons: They do weigh on my ears after so many hours of play, but I really haven't broken them in yet. So my only con is just because I'm not used to them yet, or so I imagine. I'll give an update if they get worse!
Other Comments: These headphones are different than others I've used. When I start CS, some of the sounds are very loud and on other headphones, they would be too loud and hurt my ears. But with these ones, it sort of makes everything the same sharp tones, so it actually doesn't hurt because its too loud.

Pros: Bass-anemic, Great separation, Amazing sound quality, Great priceperformance, Brilliant highs, Better Than Expected Mids
Cons: Pads Are Uncomfortable, Not At All Portable
Other Comments: These are some of the best headphones for the money. I would recommend these to anyone who doesn't demand portability. The one issue I have with these headphones is that the pads do not feel comfortable. I've heard that it's a good idea to replace them with the a1000x pads. In any case, it's not awful, just something you come to notice if you use them for many hours on end like I do. I have a big head, and don't have any issues with the wings system. I am currently using these with the antlion modmic 2.0, which is a great combination if you want to use these for skype.

By JHR (Michigan) May 29, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH AD700X Open-air Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATHAD700X)

Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: Superior sound, excellent fit and finish, comfortable to wear, super clar and crisp highs, plenty of bass punch (but not too much bass - I play bass guitar and I know how it is supposed to sound - no phoney beefed up bass with these cans), and nicely balanced range throughout the whole audio spectrum. Very interesting and sorta odd wire mesh open air frames - very light weight and yet sturdy - they look and feel new and modern, as well as sound good. I won't try to make up fancy comments about the wide sound stage or try to describe the silky highs and nice midrange, you can find that on other reviews, these just plain sound real and clear - I am a musician and like realistic, uncolored sound - and I get them with these headphones. Better than my ATH-M50s and K240s and... and...

By Music lover (Boston, MA) May 20, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones (ATATHAD900)

Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Stylish, Compact, Great Sound, Lightweight, Good Value
Cons:
Other Comments: After reading reviews, I chose this is a (relatively) less expensive headphone that would have excellent sound and so far I haven't been disappointed. Very comfortable, excellent sound and good soundstage (ability to determine direction for individual components). Highly recommended. NOTE: The headphones take a while to "break in" and will sound better after initial use. I've heard a rough estimate of 40 hours of listening time is a good length but even after a few hours they started sounding better.

By Darth Vaper (Temple City, CA) May 16, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (Black) (ATHA900X)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: These are great hooked up to a FiiO E10 DAC/amp. I use them for everything from gaming to music (metal) and movies and the performance is excellent with a surprisingly wide sound stage for closed headphones. I have a fairly big head (need size 7-3/4 to 8 hats) and wear glasses, yet I don't find these phones to be uncomfortable for long listening sessions. They are also made in Japan, which is surprising because the one gripe I have with these is that they don't seem to be durably made. These are definitely not headphones you should throw into a bookbag with a bunch of textbooks. The cord is not detachable. I'm also not sure if the "wings" that are supposed to self-adjust and suspend the headphones off your head are a better idea than the usual adjustable headband found on most other phones. They seem to be the most fragile part of the phones, constructed entirely of light plastic. Still, on sale these are a bargain for the sound quality.

It's a lot easier to hear instruments and voices separately. That said they were big and fit a little bit weird on my head. I had to use a rubber band to fix the fit and now they feel fine. Definitely would recommend these to anyone wanting a good pair of headphones at home.

4 out of 5 stars   Great headphones, great price
By Kyle F (Redmond, WA) April 27, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (Black) (ATHA900X)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Great sound, Long cable, Comfortable
Cons: A little Heavy
Other Comments: You really can't beat them for the price. The sound quality is exceptional and they are actually quite comfortable. My initial impression wasn't great with the unorthodox headband, but given a day or so to get used to them and I'm able to wear them all day at the office. They provide decent sound isolation so I can keep my music to myself at the office.

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (Black) (ATHA900X)

Pros: Sound quality, Comfortable fit
Cons: Slight Unbalanced Drivers
Other Comments: Great sounding pair of cans when paired with iphone/ipod after burn-in period and used with a good headphone amplifier. Moderate sized sound stage and neutral tones. My copy had slightly unbalanced drivers between left and right, so listen carefully.

5 out of 5 stars   The Most Comfortable Headphones
By The College Student (Nashville, TN) April 27, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones (ATATHAD900)
Pros: Lightweight, Great Sound, Comfortable, Stylish, Good Value, Durable
Cons: Lacks Sub-bassobviously, Non-detachable Cable
Other Comments: These headphones sound great with both music and games. The soundstage on these is amazing and allows you to become completely absorbed in whatever you are listening to. I listen to all kinds of music and they work well with: hard rock, some indie rock, chillstep/study music, country, classical, some pop music, and classic rock. They come up lacking when listening to new rap, new pop with lots of sub-bass, and any metal harder than alt-metal.

Pros: Stylish, Good Bass, Good Value, Lightweight, Great Sound, Comfortable, Durable
Cons:
Other Comments: I'm loving my Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 headphones! Incredible sound from everything they've been plugged into! The 900's are best for home use, as they are large, albeit light and extremely comfortable, open backs. Dollar for dollar, an absolute great buy!

5 out of 5 stars   You can't go wrong with these.

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (Black) (ATHA900X)
Verified Purchaser
Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: I had been wanting to upgrade from a "middle" set of Sennheisers, but wasn't sure I'd appreciate the difference. I thought I'd be lucky to catch certain parts of songs that might showcase the difference. Happily, I was wrong! From the onset, these headphones were/are superior. The clarity is excellent. Like others who reviewed these, I thought the "wings" were too loose and that the phones slipped...and that I didn't like them. I got over that after one listening session. It's the large size of the muffs that might move down ever so slightly, but unlike other headphones that you have to "perfectly place" to get the best "direct" sound, the large drivers in the A900X overcome any movement of the phones. In other words, you could manually adjust up, down, front, back....and the sound quality doesn't suffer. These headphones are excellent.

5 out of 5 stars   Audiophile Quality Headphones
By Jerry (Michigan) April 07, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones (ATATHAD900)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Durable, Comfortable, Stylish, Great Sound, Good Value, Lightweight
Cons:
Other Comments: Best mid-range I have heard - warm and sweet. Trebles are clear and refined. Bass is a little weak but I compensated by stuffing cotton balls under the earpads (6 small round balls each, filling back half circle) and +1 bass boost on my Fiio E17. Big sound stage. Most comfortable headband I've worn - can listen all day long without strain. Best for songs with female/male vocals (Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, Bread etc) jazz, orchestra, soft rock, country. Probably not good for rap, R&B, electronic. I compared this against Sennheiser HD 600 and prefer this for its sound quality, at 1/3 the price. Sounds great both amped and unamped.

By peebs (Houston, TX) April 03, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A900X Audiophile Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones (Black) (ATHA900X)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Great Sound All Round, Best bang for the buck
Cons: Not Portable, Pretty big
Other Comments: the ath-a900x provides the best sound for the buck. this is likely the last pair i'll buy until i can afford the $1,000+ range earphones like the audeze. I have the M50s which are also good, but this one is better (not like it blows M50's out of the water, but definitely work the upgrade for the money). In the past I've had Shures SE530's which I also like, but the wire got exposed (the copper stuck out, similar to what happens to many of my iphone charger plugs). It didn't effect the sound quality, but I didn't want to risk actually breaking them so I sold them. The only thing I miss of the Shures (other than the sound quality) was the portability (for travel) and sleeping in them. You obviously can't sleep/roll around with these huge A900X's. For focused listening (games, tv, movies, etc.) these are great. Good for travel too if you have the space to pack them.

Pros:
Cons:
Other Comments: so i've been slowly upgrading my audio system (with a tight budget). i was perfectly happy with my triple-fi 10v and an ipod. i recently made a jump to a headphone amp, a fiio e17, and wow, did it make a difference. i was now truly getting a real experience with my IEMs. then i came across this deal. i've been looking for a good closed around the ears phones for a person on a budget. this sounded like it fit the deal. when i first got it, i did not do a burn-in since i was excited. the "atoms for peace" album encoded with applelossless sounded really harsh in the treble and lacking in the bass, with a collapsed soundstage. i knew with a proper burn-in, it was going to change. so i did so for 40 hours using the jbl labs web page. now, it is wow. i read somewhere that the a900x makes the triple-fi sound muddy. while i wouldn't go that far, but it is a step above. the soundstage is nice and wide (for a closed back, from what i've read) and the sound is crystal clear, and while i'm no bass head, the bass is just right... the levels that the professionals mixed it at. the only drawback is the head band. it is a neat design, but i don't think it works for people with large heads like mine. the phones seem to slide down and puts pressure on the top of my earlobes. and the padding isn't all that great. i've heard that these soften up over time, so i am holding my breath. i wish there was a way to adjust the amount of give these head band have such that it doesn't slide down my head.

5 out of 5 stars   Great sound stage, perfect for gaming
By SithL0rdD (Los Angeles) March 11, 2013
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones (ATATHAD900)
Verified Purchaser
Pros: Lightweight, Great Sound, Amazing Sound Quality, Comfortable
Cons: Light on Bass, OTHERS CAN HEAR MUSIC
Other Comments: I picked up these headphones to use with my MixAmp Pro 2013 Ed. The soundstage is amazing and provides plenty of feedback for gaming. Music quality is also amazing on these headphones. They are light on bass since they are a open back design and feature a flat eq. So if you are looking for bass heavy headphones likes Beats then you are in the wrong place. These headphones let you hear music the way it was intended and not distorted.

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-AD900 Audiophile Open-air Dynamic Headphones (ATATHAD900)

Pros: Great Sound, Comfortable
Cons: Bulky
Other Comments: Words that comes to mind are transparent, detailed, neutral, articulate, and airy. There is a large expansive soundstage. It of course sounds like it is all in your head, but this is true of all headphone. The bass is there but not emphasized. Sounds great listening to 24 bit music. You can listen for hours without fatigue. Need at least 50 hours of burn-in. My new reference.

Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A700 Closed-back Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATHA700)

Pros: Good Value, Comfortable, Great Sound, Lightweight
Cons: Weak bass, Not good for sleep, Big
Other Comments: I use this for some basic gaming and a lot of music. The bass I found to be quite disappointing, but the overall sound quality is great and clear with a great sound stage although this comes at a price as they are HUGE. The only real knock I have is that i like powerful bass and these don't have the power I like while the bass is still quite crisp, just not powerful.

By emo (Palatine, IL) February 27, 2011
Review submitted for Audio-Technica ATH-A700 Closed-back Dynamic Audiophile Headphones (ATHA700)

Pros: Good Bass, Comfortable, Great Sound
Cons:
Other Comments: After breaking them in by playing for a day or so they sound great. They are able to handle the dynamics of gaming and adventure movies (primary use) just fine, and music pretty well. I enjoy the sound of my Sennheiser HD 500A for music and movies more. It could be the difference between the closed (ATH-A700) vs open (HD-500A) designs. The material of the ear pads of the Sennheiser is also more comfortable than the synthetic leather of the AT. The AT fits my head very nicely with no irritating pressure points. I recommend the ATH-A700 as they do what I need them to do. They provide a dynamic listening experience without disturbing the rest of the house.

Cons:
Other Comments: Got these refurbished - except for plain box look like brand new. [$] is great price. These headphones offer superb sound and comfort with a non-fatiguing sweet natural "right" sound. Only con is that sound is not blocked to others around you. Sensitive enough to be driven by mp3 player and excellent in high end rig as well.Highly recommended! Probably best high end value around!

Pros: Good Value, Comfortable, Great Sound
Cons: Unattractive Design
Other Comments: I bought a refurbished pair but after 20 min. the left channel cut out. Next day, same thing. Sent them back. But from what I heard when they worked, these headphones are exceptionally neutral and balanced. No additions, no colorations, no strain. Phenomenal value for the money. Note that gamers and other fans of bass-intensive rap may prefer something with more pronounced bass.
