My camera slipped off of my backpack that was on the floor and fell about 6 inches to a carpeted floor . The view finder was damaged. The repair center stated a charge of $150.00 to open the camera.

This has been a really nice camera for me. I have done alot of looking and the 6-power optical-zoom sure seems to mimic what you're eyes sees plus, slightly more. A lens that mimics your eye's ability is just a good thing; so many times you take a picture and the picture turns out smaller than you've seem. The recharge cycle time for the flash does seem to be a bit long but, manageable. I wasn't sure just how the A720 IS would compare to my A710 IS but, was pleased with the transition, the digic III helped a bunch. I recommended this A720 IS to a friend going to China, upon his return, he was seriously impressed with the pictures it produced.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

It does the job it is designed to do, which is deliver very good image quality. The 6X zoom range is much more flexible than the typical 3 or 4 times zooms. I only wish it started at 28mm vs. 35mm. Flash recycle times are VERY long with this camera, but otherwise it performs well. My only other gripe, really, is the very plasticky feel of the camera...it's the cheapest-feeling Canon I've yet owned.

Overall, the camera is good for everyday use. The only downside I have with this camera is that it takes forever for the flash to recharge especially when you want to take more than one picture in a short period of time in darker places. For pictures in the bright sun and places with lots of lights, this camera is great. Other than that, it has a higher optical zoom than other cameras this size and the picture quality is pretty good. Honestly, you should get a camera in the SD family instead.

The camera is a great value for the amateur. Great picture quality. Very convenient size. Nice features. Battery life is good. I recommend rechargables. AA batteries are great. If your rechargables run down there are always AA's available at the corner store.

Exellent Pocketable, Many Features

99% of my photos are outdoors, frequently of moving aircraft on airports. The optical finder is a necessity with my prescription dark glasses. The 6X zoom now fills the screen and the IS feature produces far sharper shots. Use Eneloop rechargeable Ni-MH cells good for 400 shots per charge, often taken in one day so carry spare charged cells. My prior digital camera only had 3X optical zoom, so double that with the A720 IS is welcome. It takes a little practice to open and shut the camera compartment to the SD card and the Eneloops, but once mastered without forcing in sequence is easy. In 4 months have taken nearly 3,000 photos and no problems, excellent short second shot delay. This camera fits my shirt pocket and is handy. Only mod is to sew the wrist strap shorter to stabilize around my hand.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend
