PROS: This was my first radar detector purchase and after years of hearing about how good the Escort detectors are, I can tell you with absolute certainty that they live up to the hype. I never leave home without it and I've taken it with me on several trips to Houston, TX, area from Tulsa, OK, and I've also taken it with me to Destin, FL. The drive to Houston from Tulsa is 8 hours @ 70mph and I've made it in under 7 hours. The drive to Destin, FL, is about a 14hr drive and I made it in a little under 12. Never once did the detector fail to alert me. The range of this detector is truly unbelievable. It's picked up bogeys from 5 miles away and had me thinking it was a false alert until I saw the Texas State Trooper with someone pulled over on the opposite side of the highway. CONS: The Escort LIVE app is essentially worthless because it requires a paid subscription so if everyone who runs a Passport Max doesn't also have a paid subscription, the LIVE feature is as I said...worthless. I have tried, time after time, to unmark locations that I had previously marked by mistake and the ONLY way to do it is to reset the detector back to factory settings which essentially wipes every AUTO-LEARN location, or to plug it in to your PC/MAC and use the Escort Tools app to do it. Needless to say, this is a real pain in the hind parts to deal with.

Bought this max2 just over a year ago for a new vehicle. At first I had to verify max2 trust.. Now 14 months later I am so pleased with this product .. Laser or radar has been so accurate ..if your thinking about this detector.. It's worth the money.. It works !!!!!!!

Have tried twice to contact customer service about this product, and I have not received any help.. This detector is garbage, it stopped alerting me 2 months after purchase. I've done all necessary updates to try to fix the issue - no dice. The only way it will work is if I pair it to my phone, and use the app during the whole trip. I've purchased every single detector they have produced, starting from the original 8500, and this model is by far the worst. I can handle a bad product, they happen, but I will not tolerate poor customer service after purchasing so many products from Escort. I won't buy another one.

Bought as an upgrade to my 9500xi. Sent it back after testing for 30 days. It would detect signals a little better that the 9500 but not much. I could never hear the audio on the unit where the 9500 is clear. Almost received a few driving awards because of not hearing the alerts. Back to using my 9500

I use the detector daily. The great things are the way you can remove it from the car in seconds if need be. The use of it with the app is great but needs some work. It is a great add-on for the car. The few things that could be better is that if you are in highway mode and if you slow down to a speed let's say under 35 it would adjust into Auto mode and same the other way too. Also it would be a nice feature if they could make a rear detector add on to the MAX2. Like a Bluetooth device so it can connect without wires. Who know, maybe a cool thing of others to do as well. I like it and it seems to be working good for my use.

On my second unit. First one would lock up on radar signals. I had the 9500IX before this unit and before this I had always bought Beltronix before Escort bough them out. The main reason I wanted to buy this was I liked the idea of having the speed limit on the detector with the over speed warning. Turns out you need to run the app with the detector and smartphone for this to work. To me this seems harder than it should be. Next problem is the detector over speed protection only works in miles per hour even when you adjust to kilometers per hour. The display is not very bright and the voice alerts are so quiet over the beeping that you can not distinguish what is being said unless you have the volume so high the beeping is ear piercing. This might be a harsh review but for the price of this unit I think you could do just as good with the lesser cost 9500IX.

The iPhone App really uses power. Recommend a power cable if using the app for any long driving period. Camera database is right on but the speed limit database needs tweaking. I have both the Max2 and 9500iX with Escort Live Cables and find the speed limit zones may be off as much as a mile or not in the database at all. My GPS displays a speed change practically at the road sign yet the Escort continues to display the former for some time. The live reporting is clever but usually the data is not relevant since the police radars are mobile, especially on the interstates. It may be more useful in towns where speed traps are common but I have not run into that scenario as yet. The Escorts continue to be top of the line radar detectors, the Max2 included but too much information and stale data is a distraction.

I "upgraded" from a 9500ix and wish I hadn't. To even get the speed limit where you are you have to be connected to a phone - silly, my cheap Garmin can do that. It sucks phone battery life, and when the phone is plugged in it gets pretty warm. Escort Live is a distraction. I get warnings frequently of live police and never see them, they've been OBE. It seems to work fine as a radar detector, but the rest is fluff and not worth the cost or effort.

Plugged it in and got it going fine with my Iphone. But when I tried to plug it into my computer it kept coming up low power, turning off. Did this on 3 different computers and one had a external powered hub so I knew there was plenty of power. Did live chat and they couldn't solve it either. They said I should call support. Decided instead to return it to Amazon for a refund.

I was looking forward to upgrading from my 9500xi. Once the unit arrived I updated it, sent in my 9500xi for trade. I plugged it into my 12V outlet, it booted and blew my fuse. Escort Support stated they were sure it was an issue with the power-cord and sent a replacement. The new cord blew the fuse prior to boot-up. I was at the Chevy dealership and they replaced the fuse and stated that there is nothing wrong with my truck. I will be returning this unit and hope to come to a some type of agreement with Escort on how to replace the 9500xi I sent in for trade.
