Could be great, but has one fatal flaw

As a tablet this product is great. Using the HP Active Pen (sold separately) is nowhere near as good of an experience as it is on a Surface tablet, as it doesn't recognize the pen until you are closer than 1/4" from the surface of the tablet. That means there are serious palm rejection issues when using the pen. Although that would be a deal-breaker for an artist or heavy note taker, it's not the fatal flaw I am wanting to address. This unit has a USB Type-C port for charging and for data transfer. Data transfer is great. Charging works great. The fatal flaw comes in the fact that there is no way to do both at the same time. That means I can't use my USB 3 HDD if I'm low on battery unless I want to plug it into the much slower USB 2 port. Every other laptop/tablet on the market uses a standard USB Type-C port, but this one is proprietary. It will only charge when using the approved charger. This isn't necessary, but HP uses firmware in the Pavilion x2 12 to prevent you from using a USB-C dock that has "power pass-through." The power pass-through means you plug the dock into the USB-C port, and the HP charger into the dock, and the power will "pass through" the dock to charge your laptop. Only problem is, the HP firmware detects a "non-HP" product plugged in and refuses to allow the unit to be charged. What's the harm in using a pass-through for charging? Nothing except HP didn't sell it to you. So I thought, "No big deal. I'll just buy the one from HP." Except there isn't one. They DISABLE this ability from others, then refuse to supply you with one from them that would work! Bottom line, as a computer consultant of over 30 years, I will never recommend another HP product until this firmware is fixed to allow the power pass-through service. Without being able to charge the device while using a USB 3 Hub at the same time, the unit has become useless much of the time.

Great little 'puter, very fast and great screen. Unfortunately, the position of the on-of button prevents being used in "tent" mode as shown in all the ads for it. If you do try to set it up that way, it just turns itself off!!

The Pavilion X2 is an excellent computer. With an all aluminum chasis and a "real" keyboard, it is a real laptop that turns into a tablet and not another tablet that has a flimsy cover type keyboard. This means you can lay it on your lap and work without worrying that it will fall backward. The pavilion X2 is compatible with the HP Active pen which is Wacom based (same pen is compatible with the Elite X2), with the latest version, the pen is impeccable whether you write notes or draw and responds perfectly while barely touching the screen. The laptop comes with a slot for micro SD card so you can easily add more storage room to the computer or transfer files to and from your phone's micro SD. The only area that could have been better is the USB type C port which is only compatible with HP chargers and adapters, which does not allow you to get any real benefit from the port unless you pay big bucks for HP's adapters. You also need to update the BIOS as soon as you get it (which is pretty simple to avoid the screen from getting hot during charging). Other than that, it is an awesome device. On a side note, it is a shame that very little information about the device features is available out there. For example, try to find out if the pen is Wacom or Synaptic; even customer service had no idea and I only discovered that it is Wacom when I tried the pen on an Elite X2 and it worked.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

It's very easy to use and maneuver. Nothing difficult about it. I use it for school textbooks, papers, and projects mainly. The only thing I do not like about it is that it glitches on task view and in Microsoft Word mobile app; it takes a few seconds to readjust.

bought another 2 in 1 and took it back in 2 days, this one I bought hoping it would fit the bill. My wife loves it and it will make a great traveling laptop for half the price of other models. give it a try!

The Specs state that an Active Stylus is in the box. This is in fact, incorrect. I've ordered two units and neither have it. For now, I can not recommend the product due to false advertising. If this changes, I will change my review of this product.
