I like the ability to use better and better video cards on my aging laptop. The added feature of putting in a 2.5" hard drive for added storage is a benefit. Setup was a breeze.

I got this at a great price. It included all the features I wanted, like network port, space for hard drive, and extra USB ports. I installed a Radeon RX 580, and a hard drive. When I plugged it in, it just worked. I didn't have to load drivers or any thing. For reference I have the latest 13 inch Mac book without touch bar. I also didn't have any of the problems the other reviewers had.

I've had it now for about a month and have been very happy with it. The thunderbolt 3 cable that it comes with is a joke so be prepared to buy a 2 meter active cable. My setup is a gtx1060 and an HP Spectre x360 15" laptop. The compatibility list doesn't include any of the new 20xx series cards but I plan to try the 2060 a friend has and let you all know. Games run like a 1060 would expect but if you accidentally unplug or close your laptop putting it into sleep mode don't be surprised if the game crashes

In definite I needed to increase the graphic capacity of my Lenovo P50 for rendering work. The most convenient solution was the Accelerator Omen. It allowed me to increase the graphic capacity using the thunderbolt 3 port. The programs I use are Lumion, Revit and Archicad. At the moment I have a R9 280x and I intend to buy a GTX 1080 ti.

When work purchased the omen I didn't expect it to be a great device in fact I was disappointed that we didn't get a razer x core. But after installing the video card , ssd and doing the configurations I was truly impressed at how well everything worked and how seamless it is. Anyone buying and external accelerator should know that 1) it is expensive, 2) you have performance drop of 15 to 20% on your video card but even with those two points my experience was excellent. I would buy a second generation omen if one comes out in the future!

The build quality and dock concept were amazing. Ended up returning because periferials would disconnect during GPU load (keyboard, mouse, headset, anything in USB ports). Bandwidth just wasn't there. It needs a second, dedicated Thunderbolt 3 controller like the Razer Core v2 to handle this. Again, great concept. Poor execution. Would seriously consider a v2 of this if issues were addressed.

I did a fair amount of research on egpu's, and this one in my opinion is the best value, but you sacrifice size for that. I installed a GTX1060 full size card was tight, but straightforward. I updated my laptop and downloaded the software before I plugged it in, everything worked! I use this with my xps13 (9370) for VR, and I'm happy with it. The docking port feature is good too, extra USB ports, and charges my laptop at the same time. It also has a full size atx power supply which you can upgrade. Pros - cost, features, expandability Cons - large compared to other egpu's

The HP accelerator does a great job at its primary task, holding a video card and providing acceleration to a thunderbolt connected laptop. It also looks good with red lighting and the angular display window highlighting the video card. It fails to deliver in a few areas. The included USB ports simply don't work reliably, especially with a keyboard and mouse. Making a single plug in dock impossible. The included thunderbolt cable is very short. It won't reach around a laptop if you're thunderbolt port is not on the side adjacent to the accelerator. The red led lights that highlight the video card are mounted in a way that you have to disassemble the unit to move it if you want to install a larger card. Better engineering here to allow it to be unplugged easily for card installation would have been appreciated. Finally the included power supply had only one 8 (6+2) connection power cable. The other one is a 6 only. If you want to install a video card that requires two 8 connection power supplies you have to purchase a 3rd party adapter. (Note a card with a very high power requirement may exceed the capabilities of the power supply, but unless you are considering a workstation level card that is unlikely. ) It does its primary job just fine. And for the price was the right decision for me. Just be aware the extras don't always come through.

I've been using this for about 2 months and have had no issues with GPU (GTX 1060 3GB) use beyond initial headaches regarding initial driver setup etc. The only problem I've had, which could be due to just a lack of effort on my part to solve, is getting the USB ports in the back to function properly. I noticed that connecting USB peripherals into the Omen seemed to induce intermittent disconnection. I just use a hub plugged into my computer as a work around. I bought this because the price was quite reasonable and the ability to use full-size cards and install a hard drive into the Omen were big selling points for me. That being said, it's rather large and imposing, but not in an unpleasant way.

for the price it's really the best eGPU you can get, and not all can put an ssd inside it, so it's also something to think about when you have little storage space on your laptop and today's game are 80gb+.
