How does the Contax SL300R T* differ from the Kyocera Finecam SL300R?
The cameras are made from the same pool of parts. The form factor is identical. The most important difference is the lens and the handling of the image from the lens. The lens is made by Carl Zeiss and utilizes more exacting construction, better optical glass and better interior blackening. But perhaps most important of all, it employs T* anti-reflection optical coatings. These differences combine to pass an image to the CCD that is characteristically different from those created by the Kyocera Finecam model. And because the image is different, the firmware responsible for processing the image is different, having been optimized for the Carl Zeiss T* lens. The results are images that are crisper, snappier in contrast and color saturation and are less affected by flare.
The Contax SL300R T* also includes a lens shade which provides additional protection from flare and also allows the attachment of 28mm filters via an optional adapter. It also features a black leather fascia that delivers a distinctive, upscale look, provides a comfortable, positive grip and even protects fingers from cold metal on wintry days.
