Superb Lens - Excellent Quality - Unbeatable Value

Pros: Excellent image quality - Focus is spot on. Images are sharp and clear. I am particularly impressed with the color and contrast from this lens. Image stabilization! - This is the real strong suit. I have useable images as slow as .5 seconds hand-held. The attached photo was taken this morning with this lens (.5 sec at f/5.6, ISO 1600, 24mm). Good balance ‰ÛÒ This is the perfect partner for my Canon 6D. Size and weight create a very balanced pair. Easily fits into my Vangard camera bag. Value - Tamron has really hit it out of the park with this lens. For the money, it is the best 24-70mm FF zoom available. Period. Cons: Slow low-light focus - While shooting the sunrise this morning, it was pretty dark and the lens had trouble focusing. I use the center point almost exclusively so that really put the camera-lens system to the test. Not really a big deal, I just chose an area of good contrast and reframed. This shot would have lent itself to multi-point focusing but I didn't feel like fiddling with it in the dark (I'm very new to the 6D). Can't say whether it was a camera or lens issue but not really important. Small matter. Zoom twists the wrong way - Honestly, I just don't notice this enough to worry about it. I use Sigma and Canon glass on my 70D. I switch back and forth between bodies as conditions warrant. Yes, I ALWAYS try the Tamron in the wrong direction. Then I go in the right direction and get my shot without really thinking about it. Not really a problem for me but your mileage may vary. Other thoughts: I have had very good luck with factory refurbished lenses and equipment from Canon so I had no trepidation at all going that route with Tamron. Most factory reconditioned equipment was never really broken. Usually, someone just returns the gear after using it a few times. Regardless, the factory has to run it through a complete battery of tests to make sure it meets specifications. New items do not get this level of inspection - production runs are only spot checked for quality. For this reason I actually prefer factory reconditioned and will always choose them over new, all other factors being equal. Just buy it. If you're on the fence because you read some article that shows the Canon 24-70mm USM II-L being just a little sharper with a little less distortion at the edges then I suggest you look at the Tamron 24-70mm Flickr Group photos. Go to PixelPeeper and compare real-world pictures with both lenses on your camera model. You will thank yourself for saving an extra $1000-1500.

Excellent alternative for Canon L

Pros: Excellent Build Quality, Very sharp, F28 Constant Aperature, Constant F28 Aperature Cons: Tad Slow To Focus Other thoughts: I recently bought a Canon 6d and got the 24-105 F4 L lens with it. After using it for a few weeks, decided that I needed the f2.8. Sold the Canon lens online and bought the Tamron. Was concerned about quality issues but mine turned out to be an excellent copy. Love it. I have been playing it ever since I got it and have gotten some gorgeous pics with it. Well constructed, decently fast and very sharp. Perfect walk around lens. Great for indoor use, the image stabilization coupled with F2.8 works really well for videos especially in low light. This one is a keeper.

Comments about SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD Lens for Nikon Mount (AFA007N-700)

Pros: Vc, Sharp Cons: Other thoughts: !!Winning!! for $300 less than full price. Took kids pics recently, very very sharp and bokeh is awesome. I read lot of good reviews on this lens and to spend that kind of money, I was little hesitant and now I am glad to spend extra amount after looking at the results.

Pros: Wonderful color, Tack sharp, Nice Solid Build Cons: Zoom ring a little stiff Other thoughts: This Tamron lens is more than suitable as an alternative to Canon's flagship 24-70 f/2.8 II. The lens is solid, well built, tack sharp, and has the benefit of IS! Images produced have wonderful color and clarity. Focusing is generally not an issue - I use center point focus - and even at 2.8 my images have come out clear and sharp. Compared to the Canon lens, I don't see any reason not to get this Tamron lens!

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Tremendous Bang for Your Money

Comments about SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD Nikon Mount (AFA007N-700) - OPEN BOX

Pros: Very Sharp Focus, Easy to carry, Quiet, Very Quick Focus Cons: none Other thoughts: I read all of the reviews about this lens that I could find and I compared the lens to the Nikon equivalent. The Tamron lens provides tremendous bang for the buck at 2/3 the cost, even more bang if you buy Nikon refurbished, as I did. This lens should satisfy even the most discerning user, unless Nikon glass is the only kind you prefer to use.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend to a friend

A lot of hype but marginal results

Pros: Solid feel, Nice build Cons: Heavy, Not Sharp At Full Open, Slow AF Other thoughts: I bought this for shooting indoor equestrian events with my Canon 60D. Lighting is usually nominal at best. In low light the lens tends to hunt more than my Canon 85mm 1.8 and the AF isn't fast enough to keep up with moving subjects. At full aperature the results were not sharp. The lens was sharp at F8 in full sunshine but I have less expensive lenses that produce similar results. I expected better results from a $1000.00 plus lens.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
